The lifeguard position ensures the safety of pool and waterpark patrons and assists with aquatic programs and pool operation. Safeguards and regulates conduct of pool and waterpark patrons. Enforces park policies, rules, and regulations. Rescues patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid. Responds quickly, intelligently, and decisively in accordance with established emergency and accident procedures. Must be alert and actively seek to prevent accidents and eliminate risk. Must administer CPR and first aid as appropriate per accident protocols. Provides written reports on all accidents. Maintains proper updated safety requirements. Provides customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints. Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to the supervisor. Must communicate with patrons professionally and courteously to answer questions, resolve conflicts and enforce park policies and rules.

LIFEGUARD

A lifeguard is responsible for the general supervision and safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards are superior swimmers who are able to give advice on water safety to patrons, conduct swift water rescues and control unruly behavior if necessary.
